Home Business

A business that fills a need

This is the second home business that I have created and have been very happy with the success...

Once I realized how much people love their pets, I decided to look for a 'pet related' business.

After taking art lessons, I found that I had a talent for painting animal portraits.  After practicing on our eight pets, I started going around the neighborhood taking pictures of our friends and neighbors' pets.  I did some 'free' portraits for them...and the word started getting out.

A friend told me about a free service that the news papers offer.   They will do a 'news release' on a new business opening up.  So I contacted all of our local papers and ended up getting some very nice press coverage.

I also do a few art shows or pet oriented shows throughout the year and the orders haven't stopped coming in.

If you're good with a camera, you could do pet photo shoots and sell framed pet photographs.

My last business was woodworking.  I found that there were a lot of artist/crafters who needed patterns cut out of wood for them to paint, assemble and sell.

A fellow woodworker makes those special triangular, glass topped boxes that are used to display flags.

A few years back, my daughter and I opened a 'house cleaning' business.  Hard work...but we made very good money at it.

One of my other daughters is living the 'RV' life.  She repairs computers.  No matter where she travels, there is a home computer in need of repair.  Very high paying service.

The main way to have a successful home business...pick out something you enjoy doing, find out where there is a need for your talent or experience, get yourself set up, get the word out and start making money.  The start-up costs can be very small.
